30. Pulling instead of pushing

  • In the old media/current environment, most information gets pushed onto/at consumers.
  • In the new media environment, more information will be pulled by users.
Except, of course, SPAM
Seems like pulling . . . Is it really?
  • Pulling may empower users
  • However pulling provides LOTS of tracking information to producers such that they might encourage the change.
Keeping track of others, again

Study Questions

  1. Rate the current environment in which you experience multimedia materials. Mostly push? Mostly pull? Describe.
  2. The old environment was virtually all push. Will we ever again see dominance of a model like that? Or will we always now see a mix? Describe.
