The material at this site can be downloaded to your machines as an archive. This is available in two formats: a UNIXtar
archive, and as a DOS LHA archive. There is no Macintosh archive, as I do not have a license for the software.
1. Create a directory into which you want to place these example documents, for example C:\HTMLBK2.
2. Determine the archive you want and select the link. Your browser should prompt you to save the file to disk. Save it to the directory you created in step 1. If you browser does not prompt you to save the file to disk, you should check your helper applications menu. The PC file is served out as MIME type
application/octet-stream
. Your browser should be configured to save files of this type to disk.
Here is a list of the available archives:
- UNIX Archives
- archive.tar -- Tar archive (xxxxx bytes)
- archive.tar.gz -- Gnu zipped tar archive (xxxxx bytes)
- archive.tar.Z -- Compressed tar archive) (xxxxx bytes)
- PC LHA Archives
- archive.exe -- LHA self-extracting archive (xxxxx bytes) (sorry -- not yet ready)
3. Expand the Archive by the method appropriate to your system. On a PC, you need simply run the downloaded archive. The file name is
archive.exe
, and running this program will produce the desired collection of files and directories. On a UNIX machine, you use the unixuncompress
orgunzip
commands to decompress the file, followed bytar
to expand the archive.
