Essay

Carly Fiorina - Running for Senator in California

It is evident from Fiorina's website that she wants to connect and interact with her audience. Fiorina definitely wants her reader to get to know her. Fiorina has posted many videos that explain about her background, the type of person she is, and what she has accomplished to date. She wants to communicate to her audience that she "has" what it takes to tackle the tough job of Senator in California. She emphasizes what she has gone through to date has made her a tough, persistent, compassionate and resilient person. I can sense Fiorina's warm personality through her website, videos, and text. Her website is inviting and it encourages me to keep connected with her. Hearing her compassion for people draws me into her website, wanting to know more.
Barbara Boxer - Incumbent Senator in California

Boxer's text is full of accomplishments, awards and honor, and issues that she is involved in. She is definitely conveying to her reader that her experience "speaks for itself" and therefore, she should be elected again to the Senate in California. But what Boxer's website lacks is warmth and compassion for the reader. If Boxer's readers want to know her stance on issues, they will find it. But if her reader wants to know if she strives to connect with the people of California, they may not find evidence there. It is a "cold", unfeeling website.
