Carly Fiorina -
Running for Senator in California
|
Fiorina's background definitely influences her determinination to make a difference in California. Having run a successful business as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hewlett-Packard Company, especially during the dot-com bust and the worst technology recession in 25 years, would give her the experience of running a government in California. In fact, her business and leadership experience could really help California's financial problems. Being a cancer survivor indicates Fiorina possesses strength, stamina and determination; characteristics that would help her fight for the important issues in California. In speaking of her family, Fiorina also noted that she had a "recently deceased daughter". These tough experiences that Fiorina has had to deal with in her life would make her, not only a "fighter" for California, but also compassionate and empathetic to the people. But it should be noted that Fiorina does not have as much political experience as her candidate (not even close); inexperience that could hurt her in making important decisions. |
Barbara Boxer - Incumbent Senator in California|
It is evident by Boxer's long list of accomplishments, awards and honors, that she brings experience to California. But the element that seems to be missing amidst all the facts and lists of accomplishments is Boxer's "heart" - compassion toward the people. Seeing issues objectively, without the empathetic attitude that many readers would appreciate, could influence how she votes for issues. This could be a problem with some of her readers - feeling they are not being "heard". |
