Earth 2200

Chris Sokn

Basics: The year is 2200. Technology has advanced in a manner so that chemical and biological warfare is a thing of the past, as manufactured viruses, bacteria, and other chemicals have been wiped out by vaccinations and other technology, but “natural” viruses and bacteria that can mutate are still alive, such as influenza.  herefore, war has become a battle of brute force rather than other methods.  Outer space has been colonized for a hundred years, with the speed of light having been crushed for 150 years.  7 large outer space colonies exist.

Politics and Government: Earth had been embattled in World War 4 from 2134-2139, until the United Democratic Legion (UDL) consisting of the USA, The European Union, Israel, and Russia defeated the World Military Alliance (WMA) made of the Chinese Empire (the Chinese had control over Japan and Pakistan), India, most of the middle east, and other small nations.  After the war, the UDL finally came to realize that a world government was the only answer. The United Federations of Earth was formed, with a democratic system closest to the United States system put in place, with the nations of the WMA dissolved and split up to become states under the UDL.  Citizens of these countries left Earth in the billions to seek a new life in outer space, always resentful of the UDL. Single-Member district voting has been eliminated in favor of percentage representation, which leads to even more fighting and bickering than before, because of the hundreds of political parties represented.  Earth has been nearly at peace since the end of the war, despite bitterness and small outbreaks among certain states of the UFE.

Economy: Commerce among the states of the UFE and the colonies has been superb, with precious space minerals exchanged for Earth goods, especially agricultural products.

Technology: Science has moved back into the areas of engineering and agriculture, as opposed to biology. Human genetics has come to a halt, as human cloning was proven impossible as all cloned humans have been brain dead at birth, for yet undiscovered reasons.  Engineering has been in a new renaissance, with human piloted, robotic “suits” being the new military unit.  Space ships have also enjoyed exponential speed advances thanks to a return to physics and other sciences.  Artificial Intelligence is also coming to the forefront with “perfect reasoning.”

Religion: Christianity still dominates the planet, although it has significantly deteriorated from its once enormous following.  After the last few wars, people have begun to stray farther and farther away, and every year that comes and goes without the appearance of a “messiah” doesn’t help the cause.  Extremist groups of Christian sects have gained more followers as those remaining in the faith are becoming more angered by the state of the world.

Energy: Fossil fuels had been entirely abandoned.  In 2050, in a underground laboratory in Nevada, cold fusion with a positive energy output had been accomplished and in the years following perfected to the point where it was an entirely clean, and safe form of fuel.  For other needs where fusion is to dangerous to be used or given to the untrustworthy, solar/non-solar power had been used.  The discovery of a non-photovoltaic crystal on Europa, which would emit electricity in the degree of darkness as opposed to the degree of light, had been used in conjunction with solar power to provide energy for smaller needs, such as automobiles. It could not provide nearly enough power to run more draining devices.

Plot Premise (working of course): Some of the colonies, noticing how much of the Earth’s resources are derived from outer space, demand independence.  The Earth will of course not allow this, and, because of citizen uprisings on one the colonies, military occupation of the colony begins. That specific colony is blown up on
July 4th, 2200, which is shown live on a galaxy wide broadcast. At the end of the broadcast, a disguised voice demands outer space independence or the Earth
will suffer the same fate.  Earth prepares for war, even though they are not sure who they are fighting.
