Course Objectives:

After successfully completing the course, the learner will be able to:

Determine potential functional outcomes for a variety of patient problems throughout the lifespan, while considering cognitive, affective and physical components that may affect the patient's rehabilitation.

Know how and when to refer to other professionals within the health care team.

Demonstrate the abiliy to independently find available learning resources, including nontraditional learning media, while addressing various patient problems.

Effectively present patient problems, rehab implications and solutions to an audience of their peers.

Effectively function as a productive group member.

Assignments:

1. All students will be expected to compile an individual portfolio reflecting their work over the semester. Portfolios are due 12/8/97 by 4:00 p.m. Please create the document on Word Perfect for Windows, Microsoft Word, Word Perfect for Macintosh, or Power Point for Windows or Macintosh. Turn in one hard copy and one copy on floppy disk (3.5 HDD). The hard copy will be returned to the student after it is graded. REFERENCES MUST BE INCLUDED FOR ALL MATERIAL OR NO CREDIT FOR THE PORTFOLIO WILL BE ISSUED TOWARD THE COURSE GRADE. The student is asked to use either the APA or AMA style for manuscripts. If you choose to create your portfolio electronically (on the Internet) please see me...the requirements are slightly different.

2. Each group will present their findings for their problem in class in a 40 minute (no longer than) formal presentation. Visual aides are encouraged (computer slide shows, overheads, videos, lab demonstrations etc.). Handouts are strongly recommended.

3. All students will be expected to complete a peer evaluation form for each class presentation, to be handed in at the end of the presentation.

Grading Policy:

Examinations will cover presentation content. Exams will be taken in a group and individual format.

Class discussion, presentation, peer review 20%
Written examinations at 15 % each for total of 30%
Portfolio 50%
