A few years into the 1920‘s, America began to
prosper. During this decade you will
see America become the richest nation on Earth and a culture of consumerism
was born. We often think of the 20’s
as the Roaring Twenties because of the advancements in discoveries and
technology during this time. However
with the entire country in an upswing after the first world war it was only a
matter of time before it caught up with us.
At the end of the 1920’s after a time of excesses in all areas of the
stock market we saw the market crash on October 24, 1929, a day know as
“Black Thursday”. This will cause the
start of the Great Depress. However we cannot
just skip over all the “good” things that happened during the 1920’s. We need to look at what caused all of that
excess. So as we begin this webquest,
let’s look at some of the “important” things that happened during the 1920’s
so that you can be more familiar with this period of time. Definitely the invention of the commercial
radio and the Model-T car were among the most important and useful
technologies during this period of time.
The radio was a staple in everyone’s lives just as the television and
computer are a staple in our current lives.
Everyone was listening to Jazz and dancing the Charleston. Airplanes were beginning to be used in more
ways than just for war. AirMail was
beginning to grow in popularity and people were excited about how quickly
they could get information to others in the country. Of course we cannot move forward without
mentioning the type of clothing that was worn in the 1920’s. Men began to dress as they called it less
“stuffy”, and women began to dress in a flapper style dress topped off with a
large brimmed floppy hat, which was more comfortable and made a statement
about who they were as a woman. There is so many things that happened during the 1920’s that it would take us forever to summarize them, so let’s get started on this webquest and begin putting our 1920’s party together!!! |
